In the Auckland District, we treasure our youth archers (archers aged under 21) and encourage them to participate in our district events and meet other archers their own age and division.
Sometimes it is hard to make friends in archery, or perhaps you aren’t so competitive, and want to try a few fun shoots before you commit. If you are new to archery, or want to know what pathway to take, we suggest the following.
Join a Club
All clubs in the Auckland district run comprehensive programs for Youth archers, from regular weekend shoots to coaching sessions and more. We also suggest you visit other clubs to learn more about their type of shooting. Field archery and target archery are different, but they are equally fun!

600 Round
The 600 Round is a shoot held once a month at a club (it rotates around the district). It’s 30m, so everyone can achieve it, and if you shoot over 600 points you get a free ribbon! It’s a great way to meet archers from other clubs and challenge yourself.
School Shoots
If you’re year 7 to 13, you can join in on the Archery NZ School Shoot program, where you can shoot for your school. You get ranked against everyone in NZ, without leaving your home club. In Auckland, we also have the Secondary Schools competition in Term 1 – ask your club how to get involved.

Tertiary Shooting
If you’re over year 13 and go to University, you can join the Tertiary Shoot program that’s specifically designed so you can shoot at your club and compete for your institution. Give it a try – you don’t have to stop shooting just because you’re studying.
Club Competitions
Your club will most likely host competitions each year. They are a great way to start competing against other archers. Some will be formal, but others (like club champs events) are less so, and a good introduction to tournaments. Your club communications will announce these events. Get shooting!

District Competitions
The ADAA host 4 championship events a year (Target, Field, Indoor and Clout). They are a good balance of fun and formal events, and if you are keen to get into competition, they are a great way to compete against archers in your division in the district. Keep an eye on our Events page for more information!
Coaching
If you are keen to get more coaching on a personal level, ask your club. The ADAA are proud to say we have a lot of coaches in our district who are always keen to help out!
If you are over 16, and want to become a coach, please reach out to your club secretary, or fill out the form indicating interest on the Archery NZ page and the district will organise a coaching course for you.

Don’t see what you want?
The ADAA are always keen to look for ideas that can benefit everyone in the district. If you have ideas for a fun tournament, or a coaching day, or something, reach out! We’ll do our best to help.
